July Favorites

Is anyone else in denial that it’s August already? I know I’ve been complaining about the hot and humid weather but it makes me sad to think about summer coming to an end. I think it might have something to do with how short the days start getting in the fall. I love the long hours of sunlight this time of year.

With just a few weeks until left until school starts, now is the time to check off what’s left on your summer bucket list! For us that means going hiking, taking Lucy for her first swim and harvesting our home grown tomatoes and banana peppers.

I hope you are able to soak up a little bit more time with your loved ones and enjoy what’s left of summertime! Until then here’s a roundup of my favorite recent finds.

************

Favorite Drink: Vanilla Plum Shrub. I didn’t realize how much I liked shrubs until I had them at our local farmers market. They make them with seasonal fresh fruit and they are SO good. I want to try some at home and I think this vanilla plum version is the perfect place to start. How beautiful are they?!

Favorite Dessert: Vegan Peach Tart. Another recent find at the farmers market has been local organic peaches. Funny enough, they’re grown in South Carolina (not Georgia) but that’s close enough for me, especially because they’re so dang tasty. I’m hoping there’s some left next week so I can make this drool-worthy tart.

Favorite Salad: Buffalo Cauliflower Salad with Tahini Ranch. Buffalo cauliflower with tahini ranch sounds like an amazing combo that needs to happen in my kitchen very soon.

Favorite Cookbook: The First Mess. Speaking of the beautiful and talented Laura, I finally picked up a copy of her book and it is beyond gorgeous. There are so many incredible recipes I am dying to try. If you’re looking for some new inspiration, I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy.

Favorite House: Farmhouse. I told you guys I can’t stop thinking about houses. I saw this one on Pinterest and instantly fell in love. It’s just…everything.

Favorite Show: Orange is the New Black. I finally caved and got Netflix a few months ago which means we’ve started binge watching multiple seasons of shows we missed. A friend recommended OITNB and it only took a few episodes for me to get hooked. I will admit that it can be super raunchy but overall I enjoy the sense of humor.

Favorite Hair Saver: Giovanni Avocado & Olive Oil Deep Moisture Hair Mask. You guys, I am obsessed with this hair mask. I’ve been letting my hair grown long and the ends tend to get dry but as soon as I used this, I noticed a huge difference.

Favorite Wanderlust: Asheville, NC. We’re going to Asheville! Actually, we’ll already be there when this post goes live. But I’ll still be checking my comments while I’m away so if you have any recommendations for us, please let me know!

Favorite Healthy Treat: Raw Vegan Donut Holes. I had to take a second look when I first saw these because I thought for sure that they were real donut holes. I could definitely see them satisfying a donut craving.

Favorite Bakeware: Silpat. At some point during our move I managed to lose my Silpat and didn’t think to repurchase one until I realized I was going through a ridiculous amount of parchment paper. This is so much more sustainable and it saves you a ton of money down the road.

Favorite Zucchini Dinner: Vegan Zucchini Noodle Lo Mein. I love this idea to sub zucchini noodles in this vegetable Lo Mein. Looks like the perfect quick and easy summer meal!

Favorite DIY: Vanilla Soft Serve Ice Cream with Maple and Bourbon Syrup. I have been dying for soft serve but there isn’t anywhere that serves it in Athens, better yet a vegan version. However, according to this recipe, it can be made at home using a piping bag! Genius. Now I just have to figure out how to make it dairy-free. Wish me luck!
