Colorful Cassis
The last free day we had in Europe was spent exploring the colorful port town of Cassis. Since we had already been to the north coast of France, we wanted a chance to see the south coast and this turned out to be the perfect place to do it. It’s only about a 45-minute drive from Aix en Provence and it’s known for it’s local wine, charming outdoor cafes and breathtaking rocky inlets.
As soon as we found parking, the first thing we did was head straight for the beach. I was dying to get my very first glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea!
I was worried that the weather was going to be bad but other than a few clouds earlier in the day, it turned out to be a beautiful. The water was such a gorgeous shade of turquoise and it made me wish I had brought my suit to go swimming.
Instead we did the next best thing and took a boat tour to see the famous calanques (or inlets). But since we had a few hours to kill before departure, we decided to peruse the gift shops and get lost down the side streets of the city.
It was such a scenic and quaint little town! Seeing how we were there in October it wasn’t very crowded either which was nice.
We were also really impressed with the food. We ordered a salad and a pizza at an Italian cafe and it was so fresh and flavorful!
By the time we got around to the boat tour, the sun started shining which made it feel so nice to be out on the water. We opted for the 45-minute tour of three calanques and it was perfect. Not too long or too short. There were a few nudists hanging out on the rocks but thankfully we were far enough away that you couldn’t really make anything out.
After the boat tour we stopped into one of the boulangeries and picked up a pistachio eclair. Then we found a spot on a park bench, stuffed our faces with it and relaxed to take in the beauty of Cassis one last time.
I had originally planned for us to end the day tasting wine at one of the local vineyards but they were closed because it was the off-season so instead we drove along Les Route des Crêtes to get a view of the cliffs and the city below.
It was incredible! I highly recommend checking out Cassis if you’re ever in the South of France. It was the perfect way to end our time in Europe!
Simply beautiful! What an amazing trip. You must be sad it is coming to an end!
Holy cow! It’s so beautiful there. Also, look at you, pretty girl! What a great photo of you!
You are just so adorable, I can barely stand it! Let’s do all the travels together. Pistachio eclaires and all!!
My favorite thing about this recap is the pictures of you and your guy! This area looks a lot like Nice, France, where I went for a night when studying abroad. Lovely!
So beautiful! I’ll be daydreaming about my next vacation for the rest of the day now.
Your pictures are insanely gorgeous! I am loving the looks of that pizza, too!
Cassis looks like such a charming and lovely town! And oh my gosh, pistachio eclairs?! I’ve never had one but feel like I need that in my life!
Wow!! It looks incredible. I would love to be there right now!
Beautiful!
So so pretty! And that kitty sure is cute too :)
It sounds like your trip was just absolutely incredible – making me wish we were going on vacation soon! I’ll keep dreaming… haha
Your trip looks like a dream <3
Wow. I don’t have anything to say except that Cassis looks absolutely stunning. And it makes me want to go back to Europe ASAP. *sigh* I’m so happy you had such a wonderful trip and thank you for recapping it for all of us who couldn’t join you!
The color of that water! I’ve never been to the Mediterranean, and now you have me dying to go!
These photos are truly spectacular! I wish I had been there too, lucky you :)
I’ve been to Cassis 3 years, it was so beautiful! Let me tell you, your pictures are fantastic. I’ve also seen the calanques but just from the “above”, while driving a scary curvy road.

Amazing place. Spent there a couple of weeks last year with my wife and kids and we all loved it. Just now looking at your pictures I want to go back. Beautiful.
Thanks Robert! It is such a wonderful place and I would love to go back one day as well. We are both lucky to have visited! :)
