A Work In Progress…

We’re officially moved in to our new place! There’s still a lot of work to do but it’s slowly starting to feel more like home.

Brandon took Thursday off to do the majority of the actual moving while I worked all day and then we both stayed up until 3am cleaning and unpacking. You guys, I haven’t stayed up that late in a loooonng time and my face was straight-up scary the next day. The years of pulling all-nighters are most definitely behind me!

We didn’t get a chance to see fireworks on Friday but we were able to take a break to grab dinner and ice cream with Coco.

She seemed a little stressed with the new environment so we didn’t want to leave her home alone. Plus I think the ice cream helped calm her nerves. #spoiledpup

We also took her to the farmers market on Saturday where I found some interesting new fruit.

Curiosity got the best of me and I bought two nectaplums and two cherry-plums. They were pretty good but I think I prefer the three fruits separately.

Sunday was IKEA day.

IKEA Emeryville

That place is awesome but man, it was a mad-house inside! You really have to plan your day around it.

One of the main reasons we went was for a full length mirror to lean against the wall in our bedroom and fitting it in the car proved to be a bit of a challenge.

Brandon was a little cramped but we made it work. I also got a new kitchen island for my food photography set-up which makes me so happy. After shooting on a crappy bent TV stand for over a year, it was definitely time for an upgrade.

Another special new home addition was this beauty:

Simple Human Trash Can

We’re using the larger side for recycling and the right for garbage. It might be weird to get excited over a trash can but hey, I am.

We also stopped at Berkeley Bowl which is basically Berkeley’s independent version of Whole Foods.

That was only my second time going but I have to admit, it gives Whole Foods a run for it’s money. Except for the one in Austin. That store is the best EVER.

But wait. Let’s talk about the most amazing soft serve ice cream on the entire face of the planet.

Notice the flecks from the vanilla bean and cocoa nibs? Ugh, I die. I’m dead.

We tried Sketch’s Ice Cream for the first time last weekend {I posted a picture of their peach sorbet on Instagram which was also incredible} and they informed us that Sunday would be their last day before closing the business. Dang it! So I had to go back for one last cup of chocolate vanilla swirl while simultaneously plotting my quest for an at-home soft serve machine.

Then when we got home I made another batch of my new favorite granola and quinoa veggie salad for lunches during the week.

It was an exhausting weekend but I’m excited to get our new place all put together. I’ll post some more pictures once I have everything set up but  first, can I please have another three day weekend?

Have you ever been to IKEA?

How many times have you moved? I lost count but I think it’s close to twenty…
