******************************
This was our last day in Squaw and it began with another great breakfast. They had pumpkin bread again, woo-hoo!
And German apple pancakes!
Brandon was a fan of their homemade whole wheat sour dough bread and the chocolate muffins.
On our last day, we decided to change things up a bit and check out some snow shoeing.
As we were walking up to the Nordic Center, where we rented the snowshoes from, we heard the sound of a ton of dogs barking and crying in a frenzy. As we approached the sound, we realized it was the dogs that were there for sledding. We found out that they are Alaskan Huskies and they make about 5 runs a day. You could tell they really live for running out there in the snow!
After we watched them for a while, we headed out into the wilderness paths to do some exploring with our snowshoes.
We wondered around the area for a bit and then climbed up one of the hills to explore between the trees.
I ended up plopping down on my back while Brandon went on a search for symmetric pinecones.
He found some pretty good ones!
They made an awesome and free souvenir.
Eventually, we made our way back down the hill to check out a bit more of the area before turning in our shoes.
The snow sparkled in the sun, it was so pretty!
There were really good views of the mountains from the trails.
And we got to watch the dogs sled all around on the track.
It was a nice change from being terrified having fun on the slopes.
As we were leaving, the dogs were taking a break and had a much calmer demeanor.
They were so cute!
We also passed my dream house some incredible homes on our way out…
Then our growling bellies sent us to get some lunch at Soupa back in Squaw village.
Brandon had the Jalapeno Cheddar Grilled Cheese with Cream of Asparagus Soup.
And I had La Fondue Grilled Cheese (gruyere and swiss with tomato) and the vegan Tomato Basil soup. I had half before remembering to take a picture.
After we had full bellies, we went to check out some snow tubing.
We only went down twice because it wasn’t quite as thrilling as we had hoped. It would be a great alternative if you have younger kids and want to spend some time off the slopes with them though. They charge $20 an hour per person for adults.
Tubing ate up just enough time for us to get a craving for a warm crepe!
Strawberries and Nutella…yum!
We enjoyed our crepe while watching people ski and snowboard down the mountain…
Then we had to grab the pups to give them some action in the snow!
They had a blast running around with us outside.
Once we cleaned up a bit, we decided to check out a wine bar named Uncorked.
Then we finished off the day with dinner back in the bar at our hotel.
We started with marinated olives and an edamame dip.
Then we split a salad and a broccoli cream fusilli dish for our entrée.
All of the food on our trip was really good, I was pleasantly surprised.
After one more fabulous breakfast at Plumpjack, we packed up and headed home. Everyone was exhausted and ready to be back in our own beds.
All in all, it was a great trip and we had a lot of fun!
Where have you gone on a trip that you thought had the best food?
Best food trip…it’s hard to pick. But New Orleans would likely win. We LOVE cajun food. It was so amazing. But, Vegas is a steady 2nd. It looks like ya’ll had a blast. You’re making me dream of a wintery vacation for next year! :) I’ve loved keeping up with you, brandon and the pups with your blog. It’s my morning coffee read! love ya-
I want to go to Vegas in the near future, it’s only an hour flight from here. Keelan was just a little tiny nut when you went! Miss you so much. xoxo
It looks like you are having such a wonderful time! The jalepeno grilled cheese with cream of asparagus soup sounds really good! I have never had asparagus soup before. One of my favorite meals was a crab, grapefruit and pomegranate salad my mom and I had while we were in Seattle, we also had the best chocolate chip sea salt cookies!
Chocolate sea salt cookies…mmmm! I would love to go to Seattle.
So many good breakfasts!! This post reminds me of why I love breakfast food so much, especially at restaurants!
Breakfast is the best! I’m telling you, these pictures don’t do this place justice. Their breakfast was so amazing and it was free. It is a great place to stay if you are in Lake Tahoe one day.
Ok, sold, I gotta go there now! :). I love all those pictures. You had a beautiful weather on that day, blue sky and slopes full of sparkly snow. Food looks delicious, would love to try that asparagus soup with grilled cheese sandwich and edamame dip…yum!
It’s a long way from New York but totally worth it. We didn’t make a trip to the lake (it was about a 20 min drive from Squaw) but it is even more gorgeous there.
Wow…the pictures are awesome! It looks like you had a great time.
Glad you had fun.
Sarah I love how you include your pups in so much! I am the same with my two and they love it! :)
