Truckee: Downtown Shopping + Dinner at Trokay
Happy Friday y’all! I am still tired from waking up early to run and the 5K I signed up for is first thing tomorrow morning so I’m hoping for a good nights rest tonight. I am also hoping to finish with a 9 minute pace tomorrow but let’s be real, that just isn’t going to happen. I’m thinking 9:30 is more likely at this point.
I guess my vacation kind of got in the way of things but you know what? It was totally worth it! Besides, I still have a 10K in October to work towards.
So I have more of Tahoe to share with you and I may or may not be saving the best parts for last (tee-hee), but I wanted to show you all what a charming little city Truckee is.
While it is a fifteen minute drive from Lake Tahoe, I personally thought it was worth it to be tucked away in a quaint town with plenty of options for great food. It really depends on what kind of trip you are looking to take but I think Truckee is a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway.
The downtown area has a nice collection of unique little shops that are fun to explore for a little while and there is also an excellent restaurant named Trokay that we had a very unique experience at. The food was seriously like art work and it tasted amazing to boot. There are enough pictures below to tell the rest of the story so I’ll let them do the talking…
{scraps dog bakery}
{coco not wanting to leave after eating her cannoli}
{sign from mtn loot for my kitchen window}
{cleaned up for dinner}
{mini buttermilk biscuits, breadsticks and croissants with homemade jam}
{crème fraiche with mint crystals}
{white runner bean salad with pickled wild ramps, flat leaf parsley, and crispy shallot}
{heirloom tomato salad with extra virgin olive oil, fleur de sel, balsamic, grana padano, and oregano }
{red quinoa subric with pickled pluot, baby walla walla onion and coriander}
{spaghetti a la chitarra with fennel pollen and italian parsley}
{chocolate covered macaroons and guava candy}
There were more than a few ingredients on the menu at Trokay that neither of us had ever heard of but it turned out to be the best dinner we had on our trip. The macaroons and candy are something they provide as a complimentary treat; unfortunately, we didn’t save room for dessert. I can imagine it would have been incredible though. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in Tahoe!
Have a great weekend!
What’s the most unique meal you’ve ever had?
Incredible photos! They really did tell the story. Looks like my kind of town:) I would have done some damage at the lulu…
very cute town… and cute hot pink outfit, too!
I adore Truckee! We almost got married there (actually flew from NC to check out a few venues) but then the hubs and I decided to get hitched in Italy instead. It’s near and dear to our hearts though! It’s totally magical in the winter with snow everywhere!
Truckee’s a great place but Italy seems a tad more romantic. :)
What an adorable little town!! And I’m pretty sure that’s the cutest lululemon store EVER :) Looks like a fun trip!
That town is so quaint and adorable! I love that wooden chair. That food is super fancy and looks gorgeous on that place! Looks like you guys had an awesome time!
Ah that town is so cute! Stow me away in your luggage next time you go on vacation please?!?!? Good luck tomorrow! I’m sure you’re gonna kill it!
I’m already a horrible traveler and I pack my whole closet in my luggage so I’m sure a human body would fit just fine- haha. Thanks girl! Happy Friday! :)
I think I could live there…so beautiful, so green! And how great that Coco got to come along for the journey :). LOVE you pink pants!
It seems like a perfect place to retire! We always try to bring Miss Coco with us because of my separation anxiety. ;)
I don’t know if you’ve done your 5k yet, but if not, GOOD LUCK!!! :D On my last pace, I ended up with a pace soooo much faster than I ever would have dreamed, so there’s hope for the 9:00 pace!! And if not this time, there’s always next time! No matter your pace, I know you will rock the 5k!
That town is absolutely adorable! And that restaurant… wow! Such amazing food. I didn’t even know mint crystals existed!
You’re too sweet Alex, thank you! I’m hoping my nerves will make me run faster! There were a few things that I ate there that I never knew existed: clear tomato gel, these tiny edible flowers, and olive oil powder…it was a very interesting dinner!
Oh wow, that town is just so quaint! Looks like a fun place to explore, for sure. And all that food looks amazing, the heirloom tomato salad looks so pretty! Good luck tomorrow, you’ll own it! ;-)
The food was so pretty and delicious! Thank you for the sweet comment for tomorrow- I’m not setting my expectations too high, just hoping to have fun with it!
What a cute town! I would love spending a day there. Good luck tomorrow!
Best of luck at your 5k tomorrow! I can’t wait to hear about it; I’m sure you’ll kill that 9 minute/mile pace. :) The picture of Coco outside the bakery is too cute. All of your food looks SO deliciously good that I kind of want to hop on a flight to Tahoe right now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen food arranged in such an artistic manner, either!
Thanks for the motivation girl! Coco literally would not leave the dog bakery; it was so funny!
It’s such a little picturesque town. I’m getting the itch to head back up to Tahoe. One day, when I’m super rich (as if), I’m going to buy a gorgeous cabin up there. Ah, one day.
That’s all I kept saying to Brandon the whole time- that I want to buy a cabin there…and a boat. I think I may be dreaming forever though! :)
Loving that dinner outfit! SO adorbable. Have a fab weekend!
Whoa. Truckee looks like a fun little town to visit. The last time I was there I was like 5 years old. I love your pictures. Such a beautiful atmosphere within them.
I’m sure you’ll rock your 5k. Have fun with it. Besides, I think a 9:30 pace is pretty fast :)
Thanks Sonia! :)
Wow, they have a Lululemon in Truckee?! Ha! Who would of thought?
You’re going to do so good in your 5K!! 9:30 will be a great accomplishment, good luck!
I know, I was surprised to see Lulu there too! Thanks so much for your encouragement Tara! I’m hoping the race jitters will help me run faster! :)
Good luck at your 5K tomorrow! :) Maybe you’ll surprise yourself with your pace, but glad to hear you’re not stressing about it! :)
Yum to all those food pictures (including the dog cannoli, whoops!).
You are too cute, that’s an adorable outfit! Have a great weekend!
Have fun at the race! I actually have that “lettuce turnip the beet” picture in my kitchen :)
That picture is awesome; I love it!
That is an adorable little town! I love the vintagey feel
Ah, we have to go to Truckee now :) From now on when someone asks us what our dog’s name means I will send them straight to this post :)
Cute outfit!!! I love that “Lettuce Turnip the Beat” sign–too funny!
I love Truckee! I used to live in the East Bay Area and we would stop there on our way to Tahoe all the time.
And I want all the stuff in all the pictures. No joke.
That town looks like it’s out of an old tv show where everyone knows eachother and life is so innocent and fun! It’s like a blast to the past. Your pictures are SO gorgeous too! I would buy them as postcards for Truckee :D
Oh I love your photos!! It looks like you had amazing time! Your jeans are so cute! And that dinner!! The most interesting dinner I’ve ever had was in Mexico City. It was fine dining- Mexican style. There was literally a steaming coconut looking thing filled with corn! We didn’t even know what we were eating because the menu was in Spanish! But the food was so good!
Love Coco’s treat! It is too cute!
Love all those photos too. I love your shirt as well I really want to get a shirt like that but have not found any that I like. Where did you get it from?
Sorry Jan! I read this comment a few days ago and then forgot to reply! My chambray shirt is from American Eagle. I got it about a month ago so they should still have it on their website. :)
