Truckee: Cedar House Sport Hotel
We always try to take Stinky with us when we travel close to home but unfortunately, it tends to narrow down our options quite a bit. In addition, this particular trip was a last minute decision which made finding a place to stay even more difficult but thankfully we lucked out and found a room at the Cedar House Sport Hotel in North Lake Tahoe.
The hotel is based out of Truckee which is a quaint little town about fifteen minutes from the lake. It’s a perfect spot for a quiet and low maintenance stay (read: no cooking or cleaning required) away from all of the typical Tahoe crowds.
Besides being friendly to dogs, Cedar House Sport Hotel is also designed with sustainable features that have minimal impacts on the environment. Love and love. Keep Tahoe blue, right?
All of the rooms feature European style bedding with two separate duvets and no flat sheet so that you can sleep at individual body temperatures.
Hallelujah! That’s exactly what we need at home. They also provide beds for your furry children as you can see on the left.
The rooms have flat screen televisions so that the man didn’t have to miss one second of ESPN and the latest news on Johnny Manziel.
And the bathroom had a very simple, clean design with showers that have an anti-scald feature (also something I need at home) so you don’t burn your booty.
They also had a Keurig coffee maker which seems to be the standard in modern hotels nowadays!
Our room opened up to a really nice wooden deck with a few chairs to relax outside in the perfect Tahoe weather and the adjacent garden patio is where they set up a complimentary Happy Hour every day.
One of my favorite parts of the hotel is that they have their own top-rated restaurant, Stella, where they serve a delicious complimentary breakfast.
Similar to PlumpJacks, the breakfast included house-made organic yogurt and granola that were both really good and reminded me that I need to make some of my own homemade granola in the near future!
Overall, we had a great stay at Cedar House Sport Hotel; it was immaculately clean, the breakfast was delicious, and all of the staff were very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend it to a couple looking for a quiet place to escape to for some romantic quality time!
Even if it involves your pup! :)
Do you prefer to stay in independent hotels or chains when you travel?
Thanks so much for the hotel review– I reeeally want to make a trip to Lake Tahoe someday soon!
What a gorgeous hotel!! I love to stay at boutique hotels but I can’t beat the point system with major chains. Also, I enjoy having a certain amount of knowledge about what to expect when I stay at a chain!
Pretty sure that Bradley Cooper cannot do a movie that I don’t like. Just impossible. Breakfast looks awesome! Great that you’re able to find hotels that allow dogs, I’m worried about that if we take Atti travelling with us in the future!
I think it will be much easier for you since Atti is a small dog. There are a lot of hotels that allow dogs under 25lbs but not fatty’s like Coco! ;)
That hotel room looks sooooo nice! I prefer to stay in smaller independent hotels but my family are big fans of Marriotts. It helps that they have so many Marriott points which I can definitely appreciate but if it were up to me I’d stay somewhere a little less “resorty”
That bathroom…please…
Looks like a beautiful spot:)
This hotel review is awesome! It looks absolutely gorgeous and SO clean and spotless. That bathroom looks amazing! Not to mention the location looks so peaceful and beautiful.
That looks gorgeous! I would love to go to tahoe one day soon. and when it comes to hotels-independent vs chain- it all depends usually on 2 main things- price and online reviews. If i can get a great deal at a place people tend to like, I book it :)
Looks like a really neat place, the bed is awesome!!
Yes, keep Tahoe blue! I’m also amazed at how well you found that hidden gem, especially because it was a last minute booking. My last minute bookings don’t come out so nice most of the time. :)
I also didn’t like his movie Drive (although I think I am the odd woman out). He is so good looking but I’m not fond of his acting!
I had to spend a little more than I usually do because it was last minute but we stayed two nights during the week so that help offset the cost.
I didn’t see Drive; it looked a little silly. I don’t think you’re the odd woman out; I’ve heard a few say they don’t even think he’s cute. Ahem, I have to respectfully disagree with them. ;)
This hotel looks absolutely beautiful. Such a nice getaway spot!
I love that bed!!
Lake Tahoe is beautiful and I think it’s great they cater to poochies too! :)
Wow this place is amazing!! So beautiful!!
This was not a boring review BTW! hehe : )
Thanks Heather! I was worried I might bore people so I appreciate the compliment! :)
Awww what a good puppy mama you are taking your dog with you! Though I imagine it was tough not being able to leave her in the room. A dog-friendly hotel sounds great, but then I think about what a pain in the butt traveling with my dog is haha. She whines a lot in the car and insists on the window being down the entire time so that she can stick her head out, so I tend to avoid taking long drives with her…Instead, she goes on a “pet resort vacation” when we go on vacation ;-)
Haha, she does sound a little challenging. It’s not a vacation if you have to deal with all of that! We’re pretty lucky Coco is a great traveler!
Sounds like you had a great time! Love the idea that they give you two duvets to adjust to your own body temperature, I always get so boiling hot during the night.
The separate duvets were fabulous! :)
Now I know where to go whenever I go to Tahoe. I haven’t been in years. Dog friendly hotels = awesome. We haven’t traveled with Lando before, except camping (that was an experience) but we do want to do trips with him. Your stay in Tahoe sounds lovely :)
Haha, oh I can imagine how crazy camping with Lando must have been! I would never do that with Coco. She’s always getting into something so I know it would be big trouble!
Hah I had to laugh at your Ryan Gosling question – we just saw Gangster Squad last night and it was… not very good. Someone was just telling me about The Place Beyond the Pines this morning! I’ve never been to Tahoe, but this hotel looks beautiful!
Gangster Squad was okay. I was so disappointed at how high-pitched Ryan Gosling’s voice was in that movie. He sounded like a girl!
The Place Beyond the Pines is not an uplifting movie but I think it’s interesting how it explores the whole father-son relationship.
You have to go to Tahoe! You seem like an outdoorsy kind of girl so I’m sure you would love it.
I love European style bedding! That’s how my husband and I sleep every night otherwise I end up freezing because he has stolen all the covers! I wish all hotels had two duvets.
I know, I’m thinking of getting a similar set up at home. It’s so much more comfortable!
Coco is so cute :), my dog doesn’t like water either :D.
I’ve been to Tahoe with my hostfamily, but I can’t remember where exactly..it was beautiful but we were there during February and I’m not a winter girl also it was my first time skiing..not sure if I like it..
I love Crazy Stupid Love with Ryan Gossling, do you know it? It’s a great film.
Yes, I have heard of that movie!! That’s probably the best one I’ve seen him in yet (tied with The Notebook). I love it!! :)
I hope you’ve caught on to the fact that our dog is named Truckee thanks to TRUCKEE :) yes, THAT Truckee!! We never got to visit the actual town, we only got to play on the Truckee river which is when we decided it would be our future dog’s name. This hotel looks amazing, and how cool that it provides a dog bed!! Our goal in life is to somehow take Truckee to Truckee and let her play in the Truckee river. If you can help us make that happen that would be great ;)
I suspected that might be why you named him Truckee! We didn’t get a chance to go to Truckee River while we were there but I would love to have y’all come back so we could take Coco and Truckee there! :)
