I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I just wanted to pop in real quick with a festive drink that’s perfect for sipping on New Years Eve. Or whenever.

It’s made with fresh turmeric and ginger, and it’s bursting with anti-inflammatory properties that are sure to help you start 2019 on the right foot. Plus it tastes good. It’s a win-win, friends.

I was inspired to recreate this drink after trying it at one of our favorite local restaurants that serves a turmeric tonic made with a blend of turmeric and ginger juice from a local juicer who sources produce from local farmers. What can I say? We like to keep it local in Athens.

That said, I realize not everyone has access to local fresh turmeric and ginger juice so I wanted to make a version at home that’s accessible to everyone. You’ll see in the photos that I used ground turmeric but I’ve also made it with fresh turmeric and I have to say, it’s much better that way. It’s a shame because I know fresh turmeric is hard to come by, but if you can find it then I promise it’s worth it.

To make the tonic all you have to do is boil the ginger turmeric with honey then combine it with lemon juice and refrigerate overnight. The next day you strain the liquid, pour into a glass with ice for serving and top with soda water and cracked pepper. So simple!

I chose to keep it virgin because this is a health-inspired website, after all. Of course you could add alcohol if you wish, but that would probably cancel out the anti-inflammatory effects. It’s totally up to you.

Whether or not you drink it for health or for fun, I hope you enjoy it. Cheers to a happy and healthy 2019!
