September Favorites
I think it’s safe to say I’m officially in the mood for all things fall. The cool weather and golden sunsets on our evening walks with Coco. The squash, sweaters, soups and stews…it’s such a cozy time of year that’s easy to love.
Based on that, you’ll find lots of fall goodies in my September Favorites. I’m a little late to sharing them but I figure better late than never, right?
On that note, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. If you live in the Southeast like most of my family and friends, try to stay safe over the next couple of days as the hurricane passes through!

Favorite Fall Breakfast: Butternut Squash French Toast. Mashed butternut squash in French toast batter sounds so good, doesn’t it? I can definitely see this making an appearance in my weekend breakfasts very soon!
Favorite Pumpkin Treat: Fudgy Flourless Pumpkin Pie Bars. I’m seriously contemplating moving to Canada so that I can become Amanda’s official taste tester. I mean c’mon, how freaking amazing do these look?
Favorite Cozy Dinner: Moroccan Chickpea Tomato Stew. The combination of cumin, cinnamon and cloves in this stew sounds so warm and comforting. I can see myself curling up with a blanket and a bowl of this on a chilly fall evening.
Favorite Drink: Vegan Golden Milk. I have yet to try making golden milk but Amanda’s recipe has me itching for a cup. I love that she used MegaFood’s Daily Turmeric for maximum nutritional benefits. I’ve been enjoying it my post-workout smoothies lately (it supports healthy muscle repair) so I know it would taste delicious in this golden milk!
Favorite Organizer: Wall Mounted Makeup Vanity. This organizer is EVERYTHING. I love the neutral wood ton and that it can be mounted on a wall so it takes up as little space as possible. Genius!
Favorite Listen: Rich Roll Podcast. I discovered this podcast last month and the first episode I listened to (How to Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease, Diabetes & Alzheimer’s) blew me away. I have worked in the healthcare industry for nearly 10 years and have witnessed so much that just doesn’t make sense. To hear a physician speak out about what’s been happening feels so liberating. You might not buy into all of his opinions but I think listening to his story will have a profound effect.
Favorite Sweater: Patagonia Women’s Merino Wrap. This sweater looks so soft and cozy! I want to wrap myself in it and then sit by the fire with a good book and a hot cup of tea. Too bad I don’t have a fireplace or $200 to drop on a sweater. Fingers crossed it goes on sale!
Favorite Cookbook: Grab-N-Go Snacks by Traci York. My friend Traci sent me a copy of her new eBook and it is filled with delicious and healthy goodness. I made the Aloha Bars which are a healthy remake of the version we had at Java Kai last month. They are super simple to make and I liked them even better than the original. Which is saying A LOT. If you’re in need of easy and healthy snack ideas, I highly recommend checking it out!
Favorite Breakfast: Fig Toast. There’s no link to this one, it’s just a picture of toast. However, if you are able to find fresh figs right now, I highly recommend serving them sliced on a warm slab of bread with dairy-free butter (or ricotta), toasted walnuts, and light drizzle of honey. It’s HEAVENLY.
Favorite Tunes: Facing Future by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. I dare you to try and say that name three times fast! Phew. We picked up this album on our first day of the Kauai trip and listened to it every single day after. It’s one of those that just keeps getting better the more you play it. Even if you’re not in Hawaii, it’s still relaxing and fun to listen to.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for sharing, Sarah! I love those aloha bars too.. both the naughty and healthy version (hehe)! We listen to IZ all. the. time. Each time, we are whisked back to Kauai, even if it’s only in our minds. I miss it so much. LOVE Golden Milk. I make it on the regular in the mornings, but often go back and fourth between a matcha latte’ or golden milk. That sweater.. ALL things patagonia I say! Love their business ethic and how they stand behind their products. You know whatever you buy from them is sourced responsibly, organic and will last many, many years. I’m waiting for that sweater to go on sale too! Thank you for this, Sarah! xo
Yes, I love that listening to IZ gives you that instant feeling like you are back on the island. Sigh… ;)
I love seeing Ms. Coco make an appearance on the blog. What a great photo of her! David was listening to the Rich Roll Podcast for a while and really liked his episodes. He sounded like a smart cookie. :)
Thanks Kelli! That photo is actually from a couple of years ago. We’ve been dealing with a few health issues with her recently so unfortunately she doesn’t smile much anymore. She’s almost 14 so we’re just trying to keep her comfortable at this point. But remembering her like that makes me happy. :)
Yes, it’s a great podcast! I don’t love every episode but there are a lot of awesome interviews. I hope you have a good weekend and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!! <3
Hi Sarah,
Everything looks so good. I can’t believe you have golden milk on your list of favorites. I’ve been wanting to try it and have been looking for a good recipe for the past few days! Can’t wait to try it.
I’ve been meaning to tell you about something for about a year now. I bought a wonderful little tool at a kitchen store in Bath, Maine. It’s called “Maudie’s super squash scooper”. It is small and fantastic for scooping out the seeds in a squash. It is so much better than a spoon. It is only found in New England. But, if you google it, you can find places that sell it on-line. If you have too much trouble and really want to give it a try, let me know and I will be happy to send you one.
Thanks again for all you do. Have a lovely day.
You’re too sweet, Nancy! Thanks for sharing that with me. It’s sounds like a super helpful tool, I’ll have to look it up! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. :)
Aww Coco looks so happy! I’m happy it’s fall too, and hopefully after this weekend the heat will be gone! Traci’s book sounds great and I love her recipes, so I need to get my hands on that. And why haven’t I ever thought to make butternut squash french toast — yum!
Thanks for your great list! Also, beautiful photo of Coco!
Thanks Jerilyn! Hope all is well with you! :)
Love that pic of Coco! Our sweet old ladies are just the best, aren’t they?
That makeup organizer is amazing. I’ve been using one of those drawer organizers for mine, but that is way better.
They are the best! :)
And I know, I’m seriously obsessing over the makeup organizer. If they weren’t sold out I probably would have bought one already!
Great post Sarah!!! I really loved the picture of vegan golden milk. Thanks for great list.
Amanda’s photography is beautiful, isn’t it?
I hope you have a great weekend, Puja!
Aww I love this article it’s so fun, The dog though! Love IT!
She’s my baby. Thanks Mary! :)
I’m with you lady, I’m digging autumn! I’m in NJ right now and it’s very fall-ish around here. I’m enjoying these 60s-70s temperatures. And all of this food looks so delicious! I’m totally in the mood for some fig toast.
