Our Wedding: Reception Decor
The reception took place in the ballroom at Highland Manor, which was only a few steps away from where we held the ceremony. I wanted everything to have a soft romantic feel and went with white linens, lace table runners and mercury glass.
I was able to do all of the décor myself and took the time to write down the names and the colors of exactly what flowers I had in mind because I had originally planned to do them as well. Control freak? Who…me?
Yeah well, after spending a week researching how to make a bouquet and centerpieces on YouTube, I realized that I was in way over my head. I ended-up hiring Dream Designs Florist instead and it was easily one of the best decisions I made. She was able to make my vision come to life perfectly and I was blown away by how pretty the flowers were.
For wedding favors, the tables were set with donation cards made out to Halifax Humane Society, where we adopted our dog Gigi.
She was literally like our baby for the past nine years so we wanted to incorporate her memory into the day as much as we could.
A lot of the décor were things I found on Etsy, including the table numbers and a matching seating chart that were custom made by Meg from Sweet Carolina Collective. The artisans on Etsy are truly amazing and made it much easier for me to do things myself.
Then there was the cake which was incredible…
It was a marble cake that had separate layers of dark chocolate mousse and vanilla custard inside and an Italian meringue buttercream frosting on top. I seriously could have eaten the entire thing! Unfortunately we had to fly home the next day so we couldn’t take any of the leftovers with us but we asked my father-in-law to save us a piece for our anniversary next year.
The reception started as the sun was setting so we changed the lighting to a soft, candle-lit glow before everyone came in.
Then it was time to get the party started!

Wow Sarah, what a gorgeous wedding! I love everything about it, especially the flowers. I’m so happy for you guys! Congrats! PS Have we already talked about the fact that we are practically neighbors? I’m in Sac. :)
No, we haven’t talked about that! I didn’t even realize. We’ll have to organize a meet up at some point. :)
Beautiful Sarah!! I love the romantic feels of everything and you are so right–Etsy does have something for everyone and every occasion.
So beautiful! And I love what you did for wedding favours – that’s sweet!
Your decorations look like they’re straight out of a magazine. So pretty! I love the romantic look, too, totally suits you!

I love attending weddings where all the details are well-thought out. I really like the simple elegance of your table numbers, looks like rustic wood with scroll flair. Lovely.
Such a beautiful, classic theme! Those flowers really are beautiful. I’m struggling with the decision whether to do them myself or hire it out for our wedding. It can be expensive, but the results can be so stunning!
I love all these pictures, Sarah! It makes me laugh that you were going to do your own flowers! That is cray cray! Everything looks gorgeous.
I’ve never shared our wedding photos but you sharing yours makes me want to share mine! I keep hoping my photographer will blog my wedding and then I’ll just link it…I’m too lazy. lol.
Everything looks so gorgeous! I love it all!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! We apparently have very similar taste so I am loving looking at all these pictures!! haha We used a lot of the mercury glass at our wedding too – I love it. I keep meaning to try to find some for our house decorations! Now if only I had more money to decorate… lol
Everything looks so gorgeous! Such great photos too :)
So gorgeous! I absolutely adore the soft romantic feel to your reception, and all of details are just perfection. Definitely a Pinterest wedding :D
Everything is absolutely gorgeous! I love your flower bouquets so much and I definitely think you got the romantic, soft look you were going for. As a huge dog lover, I adore the touch of Gigi that you put into it, as well as the donations to the Humane Society.
Soooo gorgeous! I love the flowers, and your cake sounds right up my alley. Checking out those table markers on Etsy right now… I need to decide what to do for mine! Thanks for the inspiration :)
Well, I am just going to TAKE all of your ideas whenever I get married if that’s okay! LOL!! Because this is just stunning!
Gah… again, I’m in love with everything in this post. I also love that you donated to a charity as your wedding favor. We did the same thing. Both of my grandmothers and Kyle’s grandfather passed away right before our wedding, so in memory, we donated to the American Cancer Society. I thought it was a much better option than cheesy favors.
