Our Wedding: Reception Decor

The reception took place in the ballroom at Highland Manor, which was only a few steps away from where we held the ceremony. I wanted everything to have a soft romantic feel and went with white linens, lace table runners and mercury glass.

I was able to do all of the décor myself and took the time to write down the names and the colors of exactly what flowers I had in mind because I had originally planned to do them as well. Control freak? Who…me?

Yeah well, after spending a week researching how to make a bouquet and centerpieces on YouTube, I realized that I was in way over my head. I ended-up hiring Dream Designs Florist instead and it was easily one of the best decisions I made. She was able to make my vision come to life perfectly and I was blown away by how pretty the flowers were.

For wedding favors, the tables were set with donation cards made out to Halifax Humane Society, where we adopted our dog Gigi.

She was literally like our baby for the past nine years so we wanted to incorporate her memory into the day as much as we could.

A lot of the décor were things I found on Etsy, including the table numbers and a matching seating chart that were custom made by Meg from Sweet Carolina Collective.  The artisans on Etsy are truly amazing and made it much easier for me to do things myself.

Then there was the cake which was incredible

It was a marble cake that had separate layers of dark chocolate mousse and vanilla custard inside and an Italian meringue buttercream frosting on top. I seriously could have eaten the entire thing! Unfortunately we had to fly home the next day so we couldn’t take any of the leftovers with us but we asked my father-in-law to save us a piece for our anniversary next year.

The reception started as the sun was setting so we changed the lighting to a soft, candle-lit glow before everyone came in.
