January Favorites
Friends! How was your January? Were you able to escape the cold and dreary weather?
We had a few days of sunshine but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t desperately waiting for spring to arrive. I can’t wait to be able to wear something other than sweatpants and flannels for a change. Fingers crossed it gets here soon!
In the meantime, let’s take a look at my favorite finds from the past month. Cheers to a fabulous February!
*************
Favorite Breakfast: Banana Bread French Toast. Okay so this is literally slices of banana bread cooked like French toast. Can we say genius?
Favorite Appetizer: Cauliflower Buffalo Wings. If you haven’t discovered Hot For Food on YouTube yet, you are seriously missing out. Lauren is hilarious and her recipes always look insanely delicious. I’m especially dying to trying these cauliflower wings. They look perfect for Super Bowl Sunday.
Favorite Bowls: Roasted Vegetable Quinoa Harvest Bowls. I adore simple and healthy recipes like this. All you have to do is roast some veggies in the oven, boil some quinoa and whip up a flavorful tahini dressing. It doesn’t get much easier to eat healthy and delicious food than that!
Favorite Travel Destination: Charleston, South Carolina. Brandon and I have plans to visit Charleston for our anniversary in April and I’ve had a really hard time finding a reasonably priced place to stay. It’s crazy expensive! If you’ve been and you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
Favorite Book: A Dog’s Purpose. I’ve gone a full month without bringing any electronics with me to bed at night which means I’ve been reading a lot more. I finished this book a couple of weeks ago and it was sooo adorable. We’ve been thinking about adopting a new furry friend soon and this book made me want to immediately run to the shelter and scoop one (maybe two) up to bring home.
Favorite Dry Skin Saver: Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence. My skin gets so dry during the winter and this facial spray has been my saving grace. I spritz it on when I wake up in the morning and after I shower at night and it feels so refreshing.
Favorite Documentary: At the Fork. We randomly stumbled upon this documentary this month and decided to give it a go. It’s about an omnivore husband and his vegetarian wife. After hearing her side for several years, the husband (who also happens to be a filmmaker) agreed to travel across the country and interview farmers firsthand to hear their perspective and see exactly what takes place in the animal agriculture industry. It was refreshing to see a documentary that isn’t showing you undercover videos but rather an honest look taken directly from the people that call this their livelihood. I think it’s a powerful film that’s important for all Americans to see.
Favorite Toast: Mushrooms on Toast with Creamy White Bean Spread. I’m obsessed with mushrooms and could easily eat this toast for lunch on repeat every day. It’s simple, healthy, and it looks soooo delicious.
Favorite Beauty Sampler: Customized Foundation/Concealer Sample Kit. I’ve gotten pretty strict about replacing my beauty products with non-toxic and cruelty-free brands whenever I run out of something. With limited options at the store, I often end up looking for things online but don’t want to buy something without seeing the color and quality in-person. These sampler kits from Safe and Chic are the perfect solution. For $15 they send you samples of 9 different foundations and concealers so that you can see which one you like best. I’ve tried about 5 of them so far and am really impressed with the quality. It’s a great way to find something that works for you!
Favorite Instagram: Chelsea Kauai. This girl is from Kauai and she travels to the most stunning places across the world with some very talented photographers by her side. Whether it’s of Hawaii or not, I’m constantly in awe of the breathtaking shots that she posts.
Favorite Kitchen Find: Heath Ceramics Salt & Pepper Shakers. Is it completely ridiculous for me to be sharing salt & pepper shakers with my favorites? Sorry, I can’t help it. I just love them so much. Especially because they are made in California. ;)
Favorite Dessert: One Bowl Vegan Dark Chocolate Salted Brownies. My jaw dropped when I saw these. How incredible do they look?!

Those cauliflower wings look awesome. I need to decide on some healthy super bowl food for this weekend. My skin gets super dry in the winter, too, so I may need to check out that face mist! Sometimes I just put coconut oil all over my face because it’s one of the only things that works.
That’s a great idea! I use coconut oil for my hair but never thought to use it on my face. Thanks for the tip!
Charleston has always looked so cute to me! I can’t wait to read your travel posts after you go. :)
I also can’t wait for the day when you adopt a new fury friend! I think it’s wonderful you’re going to give a new pup a home.
This is the first time I haven’t had a dog in the past 13 years and it feels so weird. They are a lot of work but they bring so much joy to the every day. Life doesn’t feel complete without them! :)
I’ve been making buffalo cauliflower “wings” lately and they’re sooo good – even my boyfriend likes them!
I’ll have to check out that documentary after I finish watching the doc “Sugar Coated”. I started it yesterday but fell asleep in the middle (not because it was boring haha, I’m sick right now and I think I just needed sleep).
Aw, hope you feel better soon, Chelsea! <3
Ah my gaaaaawsh, Chelsea Kauai’s InstaG is so amazing! I’m blown away and envious…and am now following the crap out of her! I’m loving all these awesome finds. I’ve heard Charleston is rated one of the top places in the world to visit, and I must make me a double batch of that buffalo cauli stat! :D
She has a pretty awesome lifestyle. I would be happy just to call a place like Kauai home!
Charleston is on our list as well…maybe this summer. Can’t wait for your recaps and pictures :) Also, I just bought that book!
I can’t wait to see recaps from your upcoming trip to Hawaii! :)
You’re going to love the book! There is a sequel which I’m reading now and it’s really good too.
Great round up! I love a good quinoa bowl and that one looks SO good.
The “A Dog’s Purpose” commercials nearly make me cry every time. lol. I’ve been thinking of picking up the book so I don’t need to cry in the movie theater.
I bawled the first time I saw the commercial too! I wanted to go see it but then I saw a video on Facebook of one of the dog “actors” being forced into water rapids for a scene. That defeats the whole the purpose of the movie! So I decided to stick to the books instead. They’re probably better anyway! :)
I’m ready for spring too but we’re going to get blasted with another big rain storm the next few days. I’m still not complaining…just ready for spring! Those toasts and quinoa bowls look so good, and those S&P shakers are the cutest things. As for dogs, you know my stance on them. My life wouldn’t be the same without one, and I’ll bet you have a new dog or two before we know it. :)
Well at least it gives you another excuse to bake some biscotti! ;)
I really enjoyed your list, so many different things were covered. I’m intrigued by the face spritzer, love the book suggestion and the bowl looks simply delicious, etc. Thanks for sharing your favorites with your readers. :)
I think you would love the book, Jerilyn! It’s a must for dog lovers. :)
OMG so many good things in this post! Starting with the food… I don’t like French toast, so banana bread French toast sounds amazing! And those brownies look like chocolate heaven!
Onto the other good stuff, thanks for the documentary recommendation! I just jotted that one down to watch. I also definitely want to read A Dog’s Purpose. The movie commercial in itself makes me want to cry!
Also, I’ve only been to Charleston once, and I really enjoyed it there! Can’t wait to hear about your getaway there in the spring.
We loveeee Charleston but yup, it’s definitely pricey (we’re lucky since my uncle & his wife live there). The food alone is fantastic!! ANYWAY. You’re making me really hungry with all these recipe ideas! I must go find a snack…
definitely some favorites here! that toast.. oh my! and thanks for sharing the brownies friend. <3 you
Is January really over already?! Well, we didn’t have many cool days and it already feels like spring here, so maybe you guys should just more here :) I’ve been wanting to try BBQ Cauliflower wings! I might just have to make them this afternoon for the game! Happy February!
