Hiking Del Valle Regional Park
Okay, this post technically shouldn’t be titled “hiking” because it was more like a stroll but we’ll just pretend it was actually a hike, k?
We have been doing our best to get Coco out of the house as much as possible to keep her from feeling lonely so we decided to take her with us to Del Valle Regional Park over the weekend.
The park is huge and is based around a big lake where you can partake in various water activities.
The park was really busy with people barbecuing and swimming everywhere. It was certainly a perfect day to cool off in the lake with the 90+ degree heat we had here.
There was also lots of people boating, kayaking, and even paddle boarding.
We decided to take Coco down the “dog run” trail which runs right along side the water.
The views of the hills surrounding the lake made for nice scenery along the hike.
After a while, Coco started to look pretty tired from the heat so we decided to find a shady spot beneath the trees to rest for a bit.
She enjoyed watching the action on the lake.
We also saw lots of other dogs swimming in the lake but Coco is not a fan of water (in any form) so she didn’t join in.
She was more interested in the really big dogs at the park…
After about a mile and a half of walking, she started to look pretty exhausted so we called it quits and headed towards the AC.
We gave her a nice bath at home to help cool her off, even though she’s not a fan of those either.
Del Valle definitely wasn’t the prettiest place we’ve been in California, but overall, it’s a really nice park and we hope to make it back there sometime to do some more exploring. We’ll probably wait to bring Coco back until the weather cools off some though.
So far, she seems to be handling everything okay but we have noticed a few behavior changes which has made coping even harder for us. I am starting to consider adopting another dog so she’ll have a friend again but I question if it is the best decision. I wouldn’t know whether to get a puppy or an older dog and I also worry about how she would adjust to a new personality. Her and Gigi were like Yin and Yang and I doubt we could find her such a perfect match again. Honestly, neither of us wants another dog right now but we want Coco to be happy so we’ll see.
In other news, Brandon was at work late so I took in another trashy episode of the Bachelorette. I liked the guy that did Bikram yoga! He seemed really nice, she should have kept him.
Does anyone else think Ben is cheesy? I mean, the way he went about kissing her for the first time? Please, honey-child.
Do you have a favorite match for Desiree yet?
Would you get another dog if your dog lost their companion?
Looks like a great hiking spot! i havent seen any bachelorette this season but she wason live with kelly and michael a week or two ago, and it was a cute segment, ive been meaning to watch! i think if you guys arent ready for a new dog yet then don’t force yourselves to get one yet. coco will be happy hanging out with the two of you :)
Thanks Charlotte! We are trying to keep her happy but I don’t think we smell stinky enough for her. ;)
What beautiful scenery! Looks like a great place to hike!
That scenery is just stunning. I would love to take a hike sometime soon! You’ve just given me something to put on my bucket list!
I love hiking, it is a great way to connect with nature and get your exercise at the same time! You should definitely make time for it in the near future! :)
Ugh I hate Ben! He reminds me of a friends ex boyfriend who turned out to be the biggest cheater I’ve ever heard of. I can’t wait for her to get rid of him he is super cheesy and just wrong. Can you tell how obsessed I am with The Bachelorette already too?
I think you’ll know when the time is right for a new dog but you probably need a lot more healing time first. When you are ready you should take Coco with you to make sure she gets on with the other dog.
He does have slime ball written all over his face, huh? I’m glad I have you to talk Bachelorette trash with me!! :)
Yes, the more I think about it, we just aren’t ready yet so I think will we wait. Hopefully she gets used to being the lone pup soon!
That’s always a tough decision to make. :( I agree that you’ll know when the time is right. We lost a cat a few years ago and ended up adopting again when we found a special needs cat that needed a home–we just knew that was the one for us. Just give Coco lots of love in the meantime…
Thanks Kiersten. Coco is getting lots of extra attention and we’re hoping she adjusts to being a solo pup in time.
These pictures look like a lovely way to spend the day! Hope you all enjoyed yourselves! Hi Coco! :)
What a beautiful place to go for a hike/stroll :). We have a few places here in GA, but nothing compares to this…wow! Apparently I need to get to California for a vacation soon!
I absolutely think Ben is a sleaze ball – Des will see it soon enough I hope! I have my eye on a few favorites and I really liked Brooks and Bryden from the last episode.
Most of the shelters that I’ve worked with require you to bring your dog in to meet the one you’re planning to adopt. Personally – I would adopt an older dog…at least a year. It would probably be hard for Coco to adapt to a puppy and older dogs are harder to adopt out. I think it is a great idea :).
If you think Del Valle is pretty, you should check out some of my other hikes, like Big Basin. There are so many beautiful places out here. I’m originally from Florida like you so all of these hills just blow me away.
I like Bryden too, he’s a cutie!
Actually, when I adopted Coco, she was almost a year old so I am totally on board with rescuing older animals that need a home. We might get around to it one day but it just feels too soon right now. Thank you for your encouraging words!
