Trust me, you’ll be feeling mighty fine after you chug one of these bad boys!
Kale- You could also use equal amounts baby spinach but I personally prefer kale for it’s lower oxalate content. Just 3-4 leaves is all you need, depending on their size. Dinosaur (lacinato) kale or curly kale both work.
Cucumber- Adds refreshing flavor and a nice boost of hydration. Peeling is option but I do slice off half of the skin before adding it to the blender.
Lemon Juice- I love the subtle brightness lemon juice adds to this smoothie and it also boosts the overall vitamin C content.
Chia Seeds- Just one tablespoon provides 5 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. Perfect for helping to keep your blood sugar balanced and jump start your digestion.
Commonly Asked Questions
Do I need a high speed blender? I highly recommend using a high speed blender in order for the ingredients to be properly broken down. Something like a Beast Blender (which is what I have) or a NutriBullet will get the job done.
Can I strain it? Yes of course! You can use a fine mesh strainer to separate the pulp, if you prefer. That said, you will reduce the fiber benefits by removing the pulp.
Is the taste too bitter? I find that the green apple provides enough sweetness for me to enjoy it but we all have different taste buds. If you find it is too bitter, you can always add a teaspoon of honey of blend in a date for extra sweetness.
Can I make it in advance? You can! I recommend storing it in a sealed jar and refrigerate overnight if you plan to make it the day before.
