Crissy Field, Golden Gate National Park
Well, hello there. How are y’all doing on this fine morning/afternoon/evening?
My weekend was nonstop and flew by incredibly fast…except for Sunday. I picked up an extra day of work and every minute crawled by as I was taunted by the sunny skies outside. But that’s okay because I had a great day on Saturday.
After knocking out a 4-mile run in the morning, I came home to shower and shoot a recipe before getting ready to leave for an afternoon in San Francisco.
Every year the Texas A&M student alumni that live in the Bay Area gather for a summer BBQ to kick-off the coming football season. This time last year we were just moving to California so this was our first year going and we had a fun time.
We lucked out with puuurrrfect weather and a mostly clear view of the Golden Gate.
It was also our first time at Crissy Field and it was absolutely gorgeous. Although there were quite a few groups of people cooking out and having picnics (like that adorable family next to us), it actually wasn’t overly crowded.
There were even two separate wedding parties there and it was cute to see them take pictures together.
It wasn’t hard to see why they chose this place; it’s very picturesque. Of course, this resulted in me walking around and taking an unnecessary amount of pictures myself.
The scenery was awesome but the best part was that we got to bring Coco with us too. However, she wasn’t in the mood to pose for a family portrait.
She wanted the camera all to herself.
Side note: her bandana is supposed to go the other way but it wouldn’t stay so it was more like an A&M bib. Oh well.
Another alumni also brought his two whippets (I thought they were Italian greyhounds at first) and they were remarkably well behaved.
So cute.
The hosts of the barbeque made Tofurky sausages for the vegetarians so we chowed down on one (no picture, although I’m not sure you really want to see one) and hung out for a few hours before heading home.
Gig ’em!
After sitting in traffic in Little Italy for what felt like forever, we made it home in time to get ready for dinner at a friends house and they were sweet enough to let us bring Coco along as well.
We had the most delicious vegetarian lasagna made with Greek yogurt (my kind of recipe) and although I failed to take pictures (#awkward), I have requested the recipe to share on the blog soon!
Well, I apologize for the lack of food photos in this post but after working all day and coming home to meal prep for the upcoming week, I am pooped. Labor day weekend cannot get here fast enough!
Are you excited for College Football season?
Had you ever heard of whippets?
Those whippets are too cute! I’ve seen them before but didn’t know their name. Your pictures are absolutely stunning. My bfs family is from San Francisco and he raves about it. Must get out there to visit!
Coco is so cute! I love college football season–go Badgers! Although we have a million weddings this fall, so we will miss a lot of them :(
What a gorgeous place to hang out! :) It looks amazing! I’ve been to San Fran once but I wasn’t close to the bridge – makes me want to come back for take two! The pups are so cute, especially Coco!
You’re an awesome photographer, whether it’s food or scenery, so I won’t object to your picture posting no matter the content! :) Can’t wait to hear about that yogurt lasagna!
What a cute little place! The whippets are gorgeous – I actually hadn’t heard of them until recently, but apparently they’re a great choice for active people – they need a lot of exercise. Glad you were able to have a fun Saturday, at least!
Coco is so photogenic! I’m more excited about NFL than college football -I went to a D3 school, so not super exciting for me.
As a Canadian, I still don’t understand the magnitude of college football season, although it seems like a lot of fun. My husband works with so many American expats who attend every BBQ and casual event decked out in their respective college gear, chirping each other’s teams. It’s so funny!
I love that San Fran location. We did a bike ride through there a few years ago; such a great vibe!! Your dog is precious :)
What an absolutely gorgeous day! That picture of the Golden Gate Bridge is I credible! :) Yes, I am very excited for college football! I am an Ohio State alum, so the love for game day is in my blood! :)
Coco is seriously the cutest thing ever! That pic where she is turned the other way is hilarious! Dog’s are so funny. When I was at university the football thing was a big deal.. but now that I am out we don’t really pay attention to it. It is so different here in Canada!
That’s where Becky, Katie, and I went at the end of our SF excursion. It’s the perfect picture-taking spot!
The only “whip-its” I’ve ever heard of are the kind where you suck the nitrous oxide out of a whipped cream bottle to apparently get high. People get real creative. Personally, I think a good ol’ mouthful of whipped cream does the trick ;).
Bahaha.
Like I said on Instagram, we almost ran into each other! I was there maybe a few hours earlier then you, but my friend was setting up a BBQ and we dropped off some beer since we couldn’t make it. :)
That would of been cool and I’m so happy you had fun!
Ahh…I passed a rock climbing gym down there and thought maybe you went there! That sucks you couldn’t stay; it was such a beautiful day and I would have loved to run into you! :)
I’ve been to Crissy Field once, and that was running through it during RnR SF :) It was such a fun, beautiful area with amazing views. No wonder so many people love going there.
I first saw whippets when I worked at the Petsmart Pet Hotel. I thought they were tiny greyhounds too, but learned. haha.
Coco looks so happy :) Your photos capture a lot of soul and spirit of the area.
Gorgeous pictures! I would loooove to be able to run by that bridge :)
You are lucky the weather was so clear. The pictures are beautiful! It looks like you had a good time and Coco is such a little ham! Love it!
YAY for college football! My husband is a fan of Texas A&M, but I’m still a Tennessee Vols fan :) The bay area looks gorgeous, what a perfect day to get out and enjoy the fresh air! And the bridge! AH! Beautiful :) Ya’ll are too cute!!
Looks like a really fun day. Coco looks so cute in her ‘outfit’.
I think Crissy Field is beautiful but I’ve been there only once, love your pictures!
I’ve got to admit that I don’t really get football, my hostdad tried to explain the rules to me but I forgot all by now..
Thanks Anne! :)
I can imagine American football would be hard to grasp if you didn’t grow up around it. There are a ton of rules and I still get confused. Luckily, Brandon knows all the answers!
Looks like it was such a beautiful day! Coco looks cute in her bib even if it was meant to be more bandana less bib :)
Looking forward to that lasagne recipe it sounds yummy.
What percent weather for a BBQ! I’m excited for pro football to start, mostly because it means I get to make food for Tyler and his friends while they watch the games! College football is okay but I am way excited for basketball, we just have a little longer to wait. I think it’s so fun you all got together!
Ahhh, you are so lucky. I LOVE San Fran. My husband and I vacationed there briefly (for 2 days!) on a layover to Kauai. I’d love to come back in Sept when the weather is warmer.
Nope, definitely not a college football or NFL fan. I’m Canadian, though. Hockey is more our thing. ;)
I’m lucky?! All of your pictures of Banff are killing me!! Talk about beautiful.
Yes, hockey is much better suited for Canadians. It’s so hardcore! ;)
I love San Francisco! Next to Boston it’s probably my second favorite city in the US, at least in terms of bigger ones :) The pictures are beautiful and it looks like great weather! I’ve never heard of whippets. I’m VERY excited for college football season since I just started a post-bacc at a big university that has a football team. For my undergrad I went to an all-women’s college, so I’ve never been to a college football game nor have I ever been tail gaiting!
I’ve never heard of whippets before! Your first photo was just so amazing! I don’t know what it is but seeing photos of landscapes that I never get to see in real life just makes the photo that much more breathtaking! Also, I just love weddings! :)
Omg, Coco is darling!! She just melted my heart a little bit with that smile :) And YES to college football! I went to the University of Iowa, where college football is basically everything to Iowans. Go Hawks! ;)
This is so fun! We have FSU bars here in Atlanta that I go to watch football games (since my husband is a nasty Gator) but I’m sure the farther you are from the university the harder it is to find a fan base. And what a beautiful location for a get together! I wish Rocky could wear an FSU bandana but we have a rule in our house about Gator/Seminole stuff and since I refuse to let Rocky wear a Gator bandana he can’t wear an FSU one. It would be so much easier if we just went to the same school, huh?
That is hilarious that you go to an FSU bar without your husband! Yes, it would be easier but I’m sure it makes for a fun time with a little healthy competition.
My uncle is a Gator so it wasn’t fun when A&M lost to them last year. He definitely rubbed that one in our faces!
yay! i love crissy field and it has a very special place in my heart because its where my husband proposed. :)
