A Work In Progress…
We’re officially moved in to our new place! There’s still a lot of work to do but it’s slowly starting to feel more like home.
Brandon took Thursday off to do the majority of the actual moving while I worked all day and then we both stayed up until 3am cleaning and unpacking. You guys, I haven’t stayed up that late in a loooonng time and my face was straight-up scary the next day. The years of pulling all-nighters are most definitely behind me!
We didn’t get a chance to see fireworks on Friday but we were able to take a break to grab dinner and ice cream with Coco.
She seemed a little stressed with the new environment so we didn’t want to leave her home alone. Plus I think the ice cream helped calm her nerves. #spoiledpup
We also took her to the farmers market on Saturday where I found some interesting new fruit.
Curiosity got the best of me and I bought two nectaplums and two cherry-plums. They were pretty good but I think I prefer the three fruits separately.
Sunday was IKEA day.
That place is awesome but man, it was a mad-house inside! You really have to plan your day around it.
One of the main reasons we went was for a full length mirror to lean against the wall in our bedroom and fitting it in the car proved to be a bit of a challenge.
Brandon was a little cramped but we made it work. I also got a new kitchen island for my food photography set-up which makes me so happy. After shooting on a crappy bent TV stand for over a year, it was definitely time for an upgrade.
Another special new home addition was this beauty:
We’re using the larger side for recycling and the right for garbage. It might be weird to get excited over a trash can but hey, I am.
We also stopped at Berkeley Bowl which is basically Berkeley’s independent version of Whole Foods.
That was only my second time going but I have to admit, it gives Whole Foods a run for it’s money. Except for the one in Austin. That store is the best EVER.
But wait. Let’s talk about the most amazing soft serve ice cream on the entire face of the planet.
Notice the flecks from the vanilla bean and cocoa nibs? Ugh, I die. I’m dead.
We tried Sketch’s Ice Cream for the first time last weekend {I posted a picture of their peach sorbet on Instagram which was also incredible} and they informed us that Sunday would be their last day before closing the business. Dang it! So I had to go back for one last cup of chocolate vanilla swirl while simultaneously plotting my quest for an at-home soft serve machine.
Then when we got home I made another batch of my new favorite granola and quinoa veggie salad for lunches during the week.
It was an exhausting weekend but I’m excited to get our new place all put together. I’ll post some more pictures once I have everything set up but first, can I please have another three day weekend?
Have you ever been to IKEA?
How many times have you moved? I lost count but I think it’s close to twenty…
I saw that exact same table and thought, omg I neeeeeed that! Good thing we are also moving in about a month ;) Also–HA about Brandon and the mirror. I feel like that always happens and it’s so awkward to drive home. Ehhh well.
Didn’t you just move into a new place recently? Or has time gone by that fast already?!
20 times!? If you don’t count moving in/out of the dorms in college, I’ve moved 5 times — and a couple of those are still just between crappy college apartments. You must be a pro after 20.
You moved 20 times?!?! Omigosh I can’t even imagine. I’ve moved twice, and after my last move, I swore I’d never move again  And I completely hear ya on IKEA… I always think — oh, I’ll hop in and see what’s new. Yeah, no. There goes 3 hours of my life.
I’ve never heard of nectaplums or cherry-plums! Too many fruit hybrids to keep track! But they do look bright and appetizing in your photo. :)
Congrats on the move! Ikea is one of my favorite parts of moving, but once you actually have to unpack and put together the furniture, I’m over it. We may be moving to a different state after our lease is over and I can’t even begin to imagine how we’re going to pull that off smoothly!
20 times?!? Jesus, I’ve only done it a handful of times and I already never want to do it again (I will, because we’re in a one bedroom apartment right now, but I won’t like it). confession: I’ve never been to Ikea.
We’re getting an Ikea here pretty soon, and good lord is it a monstrosity! It’s huge! Love the food setup you’ve got going on now! Because of the trees in our yard in the summer, I have to shoot in my tiny bathroom! No fun!
I can’t believe you have to shoot in the bathroom! Goes to show how resourceful you are though because your pictures always look beautiful!
I have never been to IKEA and I’m going to be honest… I am a little afraid to go because I don’t think my credit card would be too happy! ;)
Yeah, even though most of the items are affordable, once you put everything together it can add up fast!
I’ve moved 2 times. Once from my childhood home when I was 16 and once to mine and David’s place. I’m SO ready to move again though. We’re trying to buy a new home in a year. I haven’t been to Ikea in years and I’m pretty content keeping it that way. Good luck getting everything all set up at your new house!
I hope you are able to buy a house soon! That’s so exciting! I have been dreaming of buying a home (and never moving again, haha) but with Brandon’s career, we’re not sure where we’ll end up so it will have to wait a few more years.
All that food looks amazing! Especially the ice cream and granola :) COngrats on the new place…moving can be so stressful!
Ha! We have that exact same trash can :) And I was super pumped to get it! Just like I got excited when I got a new vacuum a few years ago lol
I’ve moved probably between 5 to 8 times … it’s such a pain! I hate the unpacking. And I am seriously impressed you stayed up that late! haha
Oh goodness, I can definitely relate to all this! We just moved into our new home two weekends ago, and it’s the second time I’ve moved in eight months. So glad to be in our new space, settling in and (sort of) unpacking. We have a loooong way to go, but at least all of our belongings are in one place!
IKEA is great, but yes — a place you have to plan your day around for sure. I went with some friends about a month ago when we were preparing to move in, and I probably blew way too much money on things we don’t need . . . but, meh. You only live once. I got some sweet artwork for next to nothing, and that was worth the trip alone!
Wow, sounds crazy fun! :) hope everything goes well with the new place
Where is that trash can from or what brand is it?
It’s a Simple Human trash can that we got at Bed Bath & Beyond. We had to put some of those 20% off coupons to good use! ;)
Here’s the link to the exact one: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/simplehuman-reg-brushed-stainless-steel-fingerprint-proof-rectangular-46-liter-recycler-can/3250543
I don’t even want to know how many times I’ve moved in the past 10 years. It’s an insane number! Coco looks so so happy with that ice cream ;) All-American pup! You’ll have to share some after photos when you get everything put together!
I get excited over trash cans too. Mostly because Bella always gets into the trash, so every time we upgrade I think it’s “the one” that will keep her out for good. Next thing you know I’ll own a full-on dumpster out back haha.
Congrats on the move, I’m sure you’ll have everything spic and span in no time!
OMG IKEA, don’t get me started. That place is so draining! Love your purchases, though, and I’m so excited for your new shooting set-up. You definitely do deserve it! Also, I love that you guys are moving as newlyweds, so you can actually feel like something has changed now that you’re married. Yay! Looking forward to seeing more pictures!
YAY glad to hear that you’re moved into the new place! How fun that you have a designated food photography area :) And yummmmy looking soft serve! Since it has been warm out I just want to eat all of the fro yo.
I can totally relate to you getting excited about a fancy garbage. When our fancy washer and dryer came recently I was so excited, and then my next thoughts were about how things change as you get older and start to get excited about washers! Ha.
Moving is the worst, but it is so nice once you are all moved in! Congratulations on the new house, that is so exciting! Coco is adorable and I bet that ice cream really helped calm her down! Oh no! That ice cream looks amazing and I think I need some ice cream right now to calm me down!
Oh my gosh, Ikea is always a mad house! Glad you made it out alive :)
Yaaaaay! Your new place is so beaaaaautiful!!! I’m glad you guys are in and that you were able to do some home upgrades. I LOVE your new butcher’s block! I must go to IKEA – my friends and I have been talking about doing so for a while – I’ll let you know if we go and we can meet there, haha! Two bloggers uniting at IKEA to buy furniture to take photos on…priceless ;)
Anyhoo, congrats on the gorgeous new place and hope you’re all nestled in now!!
I love Ikea. I plan on buying at least my desk there when I move to Chicago, and I’m already gearing up for an all day expedition. Love your new kitchen!
I wish you the happiest of moments in your new place together.
Congrats on the move and the new digs! I’ve moved 4 times in my life. College and back. Apartment. House. Eventually, Eric and I would like to move to the Santa Cruz area but we’re happy in our area for now :)
IKEA kills me. Just went for the first time in a LONG time on Saturday and the crowds. I can’t handle it. Way too many people for my personal bubble/space.
Thanks Sonia! Yes, I completely agree on the personal bubble problem. IKEA gives me major anxiety!
ahahah the recycling trash can is gorgeous, I understand your excitement about it. I also understand why you’re excite about about having a proper area for food photography. I need one too!
